ISPO
Motion design for
Ispo Munich
This motion design project was created for ISPO MUNICH, one of the biggest annual fairs of the sports & outdoor industry. Because of the scale of the project me and Maggie teamed up. Something we do more frequently, in this way we can work on larger projects that would difficult to achieve due time constraints or other alone.
ISPO’s branding features a lot of arrow elements, which, together with dynamic sports photography and videos, became our key visuals driving the movement forward. We also got to experiment with the Difference effect which produced lots of pleasant/interesting/unpleasant results – like turning water into desert textures and greenery into alien landscapes. After establishing some ground rules for our motion system, we had a lot of fun exploring and pushing the boundaries of all individual components. Even if the end result has mostly a 2D-look, we dived into Cinema 4D to animate some off the arrow groups.

To create our world we used the arrows from the logo as characters and as a force to drive our animations. We made these into a game of pong and football. We let them make long jumps and run through crowds.
To build imagery and introduce color the brand guide called for images to be overlaid with a difference effect. When animated, the effect introduced artifacts and it was a challenge to make sure the resulting colors remained consistent. Despite these challenges, the final result was a cohesive set of dynamic visuals.
