Moving from Brussels to Hamburg is not something you do every day, so this called for a big announcement. The goal was not only to let everyone know, but also to provide a good conversation starter to help me connect with new people in Hamburg.
I wanted to capture the essence of both cities and create something that would make the corners of your mouth
turn up. So I developed an ad campaign based on local delicacies that is a bit absurd. Taking what Brussels is known for, waffles and chocolate and combining it with Hamburg's famous Fischbrötchen.
For the visualisation, I didn't want to go too realistic.
The visual language needed to feel a bit cartoonish to accentuate the weirdness. As there was a lot of text to display, I decided against making the motion too dynamic with lots of cuts and movements. This is where a mouth-watering liquid chocolate simulation came in, adding movement without overwhelming the text. Using Cinema 4D's liquid particle system to make the chocolate flow and explode.

Sketching remains at the core of my workflow.
It helps me to come up with concepts and create storyboards that define the narrative and composition before I start working in After Effects or Cinema 4D.

This campaign successfully combined technical skills with something fun and cartoony to draw attention, proving that a little absurdity in a visual story can add that extra sparkle.
